# Signing in

> One flow for signing in and signing up: enter your email, then a code, a password or your company's SSO.

## Email and code

Signing in and signing up are the same steps:

1. Go to [tierity.com/login](https://tierity.com/login) and enter your email.
2. Click **Continue**. Tierity emails you a 6-digit code.
3. Enter the code.

If the email doesn't have an account yet, entering the code creates one on the free plan. No password is needed.

> [!TIP]
>
> Didn't get the email? Check spam, then use **Send a new code** on the code screen.

## Password

If your account has a password, enter your email and choose **Password** instead of Continue. From the password screen you can still switch to **Email me a sign-in code instead**.

There's no separate sign-up with a password: new accounts are created with an emailed code.

## Single sign-on (SSO)

Choose **SSO** to sign in through your company's identity provider. If your administrator requires SSO for your account, password and email codes are turned off for you and you'll be sent to your company's sign-in page.

See [Roles and permissions](https://docs.tierity.com/concepts/roles-permissions.md#single-sign-on-sso) for how administrators set up and require SSO.

## Two-factor authentication

You can add an authenticator app under **Profile → Security**. If your administrator requires two-factor authentication, Tierity takes you to that page to set it up the first time you sign in.

## Invitations

An invitation email links to the sign-in page. Sign in with the invited email address using a code, and you'll join the organization that invited you.

## Self-hosted instances

Self-hosted Tierity can use one of three sign-in modes, set by the server administrator:

| Mode | How people sign in |
| - | - |
| **Local** | Email and password, managed by Tierity. The first account is created in the setup wizard. |
| **WorkOS** | The email code, password and SSO flow described above. |
| **OIDC** | Your own OpenID Connect identity provider. |

See [Self-hosting](https://docs.tierity.com/self-hosting.md) to choose a mode.
