# Plans and billing

> Tierity's plans, how to upgrade on Tierity Cloud, and how license keys unlock paid features on self-hosted instances.

The free plan needs no credit card and doesn't expire. See current prices on the [pricing page](https://tierity.com/pricing).

When you reach a limit, such as inviting a second person on the free plan, Tierity tells you which limit you hit and how to upgrade.

## Tierity Cloud

To upgrade, choose a plan on the [pricing page](https://tierity.com/pricing) or contact [support](mailto:contact@tierity.com). Enterprise accounts can see the plan and member count of every organization in the account under **Enterprise Config → Billing**.

## Self-hosted

A self-hosted instance runs on the free plan until you add a license key. Team and Enterprise features are unlocked by a license key that's checked locally; your instance doesn't need to call home.

1. Get a license key from [support](mailto:contact@tierity.com) or the pricing page.
2. Set it in the backend's environment and restart:

   ```bash theme={null}
   PWNBOOK_LICENSE_KEY=...
   docker compose restart backend
   ```

The installer also asks for a license key, so you can add it there.

## Running your own billing

If you run a multi-tenant Tierity instance and want to bill your own customers, the backend supports Stripe:

| `STRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET` | Signing secret for the webhook below |
| `STRIPE_PRICE_TEAM_MONTHLY`, `STRIPE_PRICE_TEAM_ANNUAL` | Stripe price IDs for the Team plan |

Point a Stripe webhook at `https://your-tierity-domain.com/api/billing/webhook` with the subscription and invoice events, and set its signing secret as `STRIPE_WEBHOOK_SECRET`. Without Stripe configured, billing is simply off.
